Student club traP holds summer 2026 coding class for middle and high school students
Digital Creators Club traP, an official Science Tokyo student club, organized a coding class for middle and high school students on Ookayama Campus on August 21. This was the twentieth time for the student club, which holds sessions twice a year, to guide youngsters through the class.
During the session, ten middle and high school students aimed to complete a browser-based shooting game with the support of traP members. Using original instructional material created by traP and the JavaScript programming language, the students implemented functions to move the player, fire bullets, and execute other actions in the game.
After a total of six hours of programming, many participants were able to complete the basic part of the game. Some participants also worked with members of the traP club to make adjustments, such as enhancing the visual effects.
After lunch, traP members gave lightning talks to provide participants with further inspiration. The presentations covered two topics — a comparison of AI agent harnesses and an introduction to the characteristics of different programming languages.
In the post-session survey, all participants rated the class as “very good.” Some commented that the instructors taught them many new things, and that they had become more knowledgeable about both programming and computers. Others said they now felt more confident using JavaScript after initially only having experience with Python.
This event was supported by Supporterz Inc., a Tokyo-based recruitment and event planning company, which helped with lunch and other expenses.
Digital Creators Club traP will continue to hold regular coding classes for middle and high school students in the future.
Comments from programming class moderator

In recent years, it seems that opportunities to learn coding with tools like Python and Scratch have been increasing in middle and high schools.
In this traP session, even beginners were able to learn coding with the support of our club members. Meanwhile, those with more experience could take their skills to the next level by experimenting with their own enhancements, while traP members stood by if any help was needed.
Putting theory into practice not only brings a sense of accomplishment but also leads to a deeper understanding and greater motivation. I hope this class did that for the participants.
